the inconvenient timing of one harry james potter

“Hey, Lil, I’m ready for that walk now,” James called out, casually walking into the hallway.

“Oh,” well I’m glad that it’s now convenient for you to attend the walk I’ve been waiting here for twenty minutes to start,” Lily snapped back, tossing her ruffled hair out of her glaring eyes.

James chuckled quietly, “Lils this is the time we’d said we’d go. For once I’m not even late! But it’s alright that you’re snappy because I love you and I know it’s your belly talking.” 

“It is not ‘my belly’ it is OUR BABY, JAMES POTTER. And I’m not snappy. Let’s walk.”

James, still smiling at his highly-strung wife, slotted in line behind her as they walked out to meet the Godric’s Hollow morning. It was crisp and fresh, just how he liked it. These morning walks with Lily were amongst the best moments of his day, strolling through the countryside… he didn’t mind how exasperated Lily got with him. He knew it was because of her bulge, their bulge, their-

“BABY!” Lily screamed. “BABY! BABY!” 

“Lily, what’s wrong?”

Her screams had turned to tears as she whispered quickly, “Baby! Baby… My water. It’s broke. I can’t, James, I can’t.. it’s coming, I don’t even know … what to .. do.”

“Yes you do, Lily. This is our baby coming, and you - you’re the most brilliant woman I’ve ever known. So what I’m going to do, is get you to a hospital, okay? You with me?”

She nodded, taking quick successions of breaths, “Okay, yes, I’m with you.”
