I suppose I went a little overboard with my was-supposed-to-be-surreptitious-but-clearly-was-anything-but haughty satisfaction because James’s sudden laugh broke through the air and I found myself turning an even more uncomfortable shade of red.

As he shook his head at me, I ducked mine down, embarrassed at being caught.
